As of late August 2024, the San Francisco 49ers have been active in the transfer market, making key moves to enhance their roster. The team’s main focus has been strengthening their defense and offensive line to address weaknesses from last season.

One significant acquisition is cornerback Derek Stingley Jr., who was traded from the Houston Texans. Stingley, a former top draft pick, is expected to bolster the 49ers’ secondary with his playmaking ability and coverage skills. This move comes in response to the 49ers’ struggles against high-powered passing offenses last year.

Additionally, the 49ers have added offensive tackle Jonah Williams from the Cincinnati Bengals. Williams, a former first-round pick, provides much-needed depth and versatility to the offensive line, which was a concern for the team throughout last season. His presence is anticipated to improve both pass protection and run blocking, essential for protecting quarterback Brock Purdy and supporting the run game led by Christian McCaffrey.

The 49ers also made a couple of minor moves to fine-tune their roster. They signed veteran linebacker Joe Schobert to add experience and depth to their linebacker corps, which will be crucial in supporting the defensive line and covering versatile opposing offenses.

Overall, these moves reflect the 49ers’ strategy to build a more balanced and competitive team as they aim to capitalize on their strong core and make a deeper playoff run in the upcoming season.
