**Steelers Announce Release of Veteran Linebacker James Harrison**

In a surprising move, the Pittsburgh Steelers have announced the release of veteran linebacker James Harrison. Harrison, a key figure in the Steelers’ defense for over a decade, had been a mainstay in Pittsburgh since his undrafted rookie season in 2002. Known for his relentless pass-rushing and exceptional playmaking ability, Harrison’s departure marks the end of an era for the Steelers’ defense.

Harrison, 39, had two stints with the Steelers, with his first run from 2002 to 2012 and a second from 2014 to 2017. During his time with the team, he accumulated 80.5 sacks and was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2008. Harrison was also instrumental in the Steelers’ Super Bowl XLIII victory, where he famously returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown, a play that is widely regarded as one of the greatest in Super Bowl history.

The decision to release Harrison comes as part of the Steelers’ broader effort to transition to a younger defensive squad. While Harrison’s leadership and experience will be missed, the team is looking to invest in the development of younger talent and explore new defensive strategies.

Harrison expressed gratitude for his time with the Steelers and left the door open for potential future opportunities, whether in coaching or another role within the sport. His legacy in Pittsburgh is firmly cemented, and fans will remember him as one of the most dominant linebackers in franchise history.
