On Sunday, July 28, Duncan Powell, 35, passed away in an accident at a motocross track close to Penybont. This Friday would have been the married father of three children’s 36th birthday.

Mr. Powell’s family claimed he passed away in an unusual accident while participating in a sport he had always liked.

A family memorial said, “Duncan was always happy, with a smile that went from ear to ear.”

The news of Duncan Powell’s passing—the rider from yesterday’s accident—saddens us much. Our entire family at Mid Wales Motocross is devastated and sends our deepest sympathies to Duncan’s family, close friends, and everyone else who knew him in the motocross community. Duncan was a regular rider of ours who always had a big smile on his face and knew how to put one on other faces too! Duncan is shown in these pictures doing what he enjoyed! Don’t let that smile disappear from your face and hold that wire tight up there! 💙

Additionally, we would like to clarify that it was an unexpected accident and that no one was at blame; we want the tale to end happily, just like Duncan’s did.

It was verified by Wales Air Ambulance that it dispatched two helicopters to the accident location.

Mr. Powell, of Knucklas, close to Knighton, was taking part in a Mid Wales Motocross competition at Neuadd Farm, Penybont. The firm also hosts events in the vicinity of Welshpool at Pool Quay and Castle Caereinion.

Before reporting Mr. Powell’s passing later that evening, the firm had first said on its Facebook page on Monday morning that a rider was hospitalized and in serious condition due to many injuries.

In a statement posted on their Facebook page on Monday night, Mid Wales Motocross wrote, “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Duncan Powell, the rider from yesterday’s accident.”

Duncan was one of our frequent riders who usually had a bright smile on his face and could make other people smile as well.
