All-Star guard Kyle Lowry is returning to his hometown Philadelphia 76ers on a one-year deal, as he announced on Instagram Thursday. According to ESPN, Lowry’s contract with the Sixers is for one year.
The 38-year-old Lowry signed with Philadelphia midseason after being traded from the Miami Heat to the Charlotte Hornets in late January and subsequently waived by Charlotte three weeks later. A Philadelphia native, Lowry played college basketball at nearby Villanova.
During the regular season, Lowry appeared in 23 games for the Sixers, starting in 20 of them, and averaged 8.0 points, 4.6 assists, and 2.8 rebounds per game, with a 40.4 percent shooting rate from 3-point range.
In the playoffs, Lowry scored 18 points in the 76ers’ first game and went on to average 7.0 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.5 rebounds in the six-game series loss to the New York Knicks.
Kyle Lowry made six consecutive All-Star appearances and received MVP votes in the 2015-16 season during his tenure with the Toronto Raptors. He was instrumental in leading the Raptors to the 2019 NBA title.
Over his 18 NBA seasons with Memphis (2006-09), Houston (2009-12), Toronto (2012-21), Miami (2021-24), and Philadelphia, Lowry has career averages of 14.3 points, 6.2 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game.
