Portland, Oregon — Tragedy struck the basketball world on Thursday as former NBA player Drew Gordon, a native of the Bay Area, died in a car accident. He was 33 years old.

The Denver Nuggets confirmed the heartbreaking news, sharing a poignant statement on social media accompanied by a photo of Drew and his younger brother, Denver Nuggets star Aaron Gordon.

“Drew was far too young to leave this world, but his legacy will forever live on through his three beautiful children and all of his loved ones,” the statement read.

Drew Gordon, originally from San Jose, California, had a brief stint in the NBA, playing nine games with the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2014-15 season. Standing at 6-foot-9, Gordon had an impressive college career, playing for both UCLA and New Mexico before making his professional debut.
